I have such admiration for the way Shelley Singer pulls together a spell-binding story. I've given her 5 stars because she is just the best: Here's one paragraph that really speaks to me: "An unmanned guard kiosk flying the Sierra flag marked the border. Funny how we still followed the old routes, left our symbols hanging there to turn to rags and slivers. Paths that started with herds of elk and the naked feet of native humans went on to become trails blazed by booted Europeans and their horses and mules, roads for the wooden wheels of wagons, tracks for the trains, highways for the petroleum-fed cars." This is just a sample of the excellence of her style, in this case her ability to pull in the sadness so many of us feel for so-called progress! Bravo, Shelley Singer!
I really enjoyed reading this book. It was the second book in a trilogy (?), of which there are two books. I guess it's begging for a third book to finish the storyline, which seems like quite a cliffhanger at the end.. I liked this book more than "Torch Song", which is a good book. I love the characters and the story moves along pretty fast. I pretty much read nonstop till I finished the book.
I’m not a fan of this type of book. The future is so unpredictable as it is without reading about poisoning and the losses of what I consider normal life. I guess that’s why I prefer historical fiction.
Great read this is the second in the series. I read the first also but this is my fave. Exciting and I really like the women in the story. Can't wait for next.

Was fast paced and exciting. Strong female lead. Can't wait for the final book. I also liked the non-errors. Keeps you from reading spots over and over trying to figure out what's suppose to be there.
