I read this book to my first grade class on Nurse's Day this year. We then compared Florence Nightingale to Clara Barton. There aren't many children's books written on this historical figure. You can always count on the author, David Adler, to deliver the best biographies for kids:-)

My grandkids were fascinated with this story. The book was in like-new condition, and is a wonderful way to present history in a personalized, interesting manner. The four-year-old's parents were dumbfounded when she later answered a radio question about a famous nurse with "Florence Nightingale!"

Beautifully illustrated!

Great seller, fantastic product! Thanks!

It's OK, but I was disappointed that the author doesn't have Paul Revere shouting, "The British Are Coming." I had to add that for the kids.

We bought this book for our Brownie Girl Scout Troop as we are learning about women who made a difference in the world. We will then be donating the books. This book did the job. It was informative with what Florence Nightengale observed, recognizing a need for change, and some of the things that she did to make those changes. The illustrations are a great visual for this age range. Honestly, the girls got bored quickly. It was wordy, swimming with dates, and big names that just didn't seem that important to the story. They don't need to know the date for every time she made a decision. I ended up summarizing each page to get straight to the point. We didn't finish the book to the end. Would I buy it again? I'm not sure as I'd have to look at the alternatives.

This is a very nice book about Paul Revere that's appropriate for elementary aged children. Besides covering the war for our nation's independence, one of the nice things that it accomplishes is a more human depiction of Paul. It talks about his two marriages and the 16 children that resulted. It also emphasizes that Paul was constantly working to learn new crafts and skills in order to support his family. There are descriptions and pictures not only of his school days, but also of some interesting kid-friendly trivia, like the fact that Paul once sold a woman a chain for her pet squirrel.Five Stars. All in all this is a very good biography. The artwork is colorful and interesting, and there are enough fun details about Revere's life that children should find the book engaging. Very young children will likely need to have the wars and politics explained to them.Reading Level: Fifth Grade (5.3)

Another nice addition to David Adler's picture book biographies for children. Includes an informative easy to follow story line, additional authors note and a time line; making this a good read for grade school kids when learning about the American Revolution or just for fun.
